Hello everyone! I write to you a quick hello today while I have a few hours break before we start shooting again this evening. We wrapped up the album photos and are now jumping right in to making music videos.

I’m reflecting on how nice it is to get people together and work on projects. It’s a very fun way to hang out. You get to go to beautiful places and find yourself in interesting situations. Usually a lot of effort is expended, like travel or getting dressed up or renting locations or whatever it is, and then there you are, for hours or days, hopefully with people you like!

art directing! apparently you can order moths on Etsy

For these shoots, it’s all friends. The photographer I worked with on my photos, the Director and Cinematographer team for the videos, everyone who is going to be in the videos, all friends of mine. It’s so nice this way!

And it’s not lost on me that a lot of people are doing me favors. I am so grateful for that. And the thing about favors is the favor comes back around. I remember when people help me out, and then I get to return the favor when I can.

Day 1 of the music videos yesterday!

There’s kind of a word for this I’m realizing: community. I know… is it so cringey? But it’s true! And community exists a few ways. It can be the community of where you live, like Marfa for example, which has a very strong and cool community that I love. It can be your music community, your artist community. It can even be, dare I say, an online community! The thing about community is its mutually supportive. If all you do is take…well you should be paying people.

I remember over a decade ago when I was still booking my own DIY tours and living in Austin, I’d occasionally text a cool musician I knew in Brooklyn to ask where would be a good place to try to play in New York and if he might be open to linking me to someone there. I was surprised when one day he “jokingly” (not jokingly) responded and said, “you only text me when you need something”. I was stunned because… he was completely right! I truly did only text him when I needed something! It didn’t even occur to me that it was getting old. I’m glad he said it.

So anyway, I am about to hop in the shower and get ready for tonight, but today I’ll leave you with a little bit of…

What I’m Into: the back-to-back photo and video shoots edition!

Two new albums (one is now a ghost of an album!), an evergreen playlist, the incredible netflix doc i was glued to last week, and my guilty pleasure romantasy bestseller that I’m enjoying in the little moments between the things.
