Tomorrow, I’m announcing my new album, and the whole machine starts up again. I could not be more excited. I have a calm certainty about this one. Maybe it’s getting older, or maybe after putting out enough records there are just less surprises and what ifs on announce day. So I’m less anxious than I was for previous albums, and mostly I’m just really happy that I get to release this music that I’m so proud of.

I was on the phone with a friend yesterday who said, “it’s such a weird time to put out music”. I agree that it’s a weird time. But not for putting out music. Art is the thing that we need most when times are weird.

The musical landscape is always changing. I admire when artists evolve as far as the way they approach releasing music. I think of Charley Crockett dropping Clovis (an album I absolutely love) a few weeks after Age of the Ram, self releasing it via Tunecore, the same distro service I used for my self releases.

There is a bit of a formula with releasing records and it goes like this: announce the album with a single and music video, roll out the singles over the course of a month or three, drop the album. I actually really like doing it this way, and that’s the plan for my new album. But today I want to go out of my comfort zone a little bit.

So below, we have a little substack exclusive - I’m sharing some major info about the new album a day early, just for yall. The title, release date, the producer, a link to buy a special vinyl variant that you can only get from me, and my new merch line.

Why not?
